2. ... today i am starting a new career.
for the past nearly 1.5 years, i've had my social small talk down pat: "My name is Katie. I work at the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I'm a writer. I write stories about the wish kids and other content for the website, etc."
starting today, i am officially the new volunteer coordinator at St. Vincent de Paul. after much thought and grown-up angst, i think i finally figured out what i want to do with my life (mostly because of this.)
hats off to a lovely run at the Make-A-Wish Foundation. ever since volunteering with the organization during college, it was my dream to work for the Foundation. most people have something they dream of doing, but not everyone can say they've actually done it. (catch the wish fever by reading some wish stories here -- about half of the ones on that page are my handiwork).
also hats off to my Make-A-Wish coworkers, just a few pictured here at 1 of 3 goodbye lunches i was treated to during my last week:

Congratulations Katie!! You never cease to inspire me.
It won't be the same without you here. But perhaps you were not meant for these duties. Maybe it was time for you to get a better duty!
Who would have thought that my facebook comment would end up on your blog?? ha ha and I LOVE the tatoo/relationship crisis. Oh and old shaggy. You and your friends are WAY to witty. ha ha You should have a reality TV Show. But Katie Lee would have to be involved too.
